FAQs
Why was the Beta Mu Educational Endowment Fund created?
Two factors drove the need to create the fund. First was the shut down of campus activities during the global pandemic of March 2020, which sent all Brothers home for the semester and severely limited on-campus interaction during the 2020 and 2021 school years. Without any in-person events, raising money for the chapter directly would be unproductive. The second was the expiration of the Triple A Scholarship Fund by the national Fraternity. This fund was created decades ago to raise the national GPA of the Fraternity and having been successful in doing so, expired in 2021. Our Chapter has benefited greatly from the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation's scholarships. Since we started actively participating in the program ten years ago, our brothers have received over $30,000 in scholarships from the Foundation. The program’s expiration precipitated the need for an academic focused fund in its place. The fund was created by Danny Organek ‘94 and Tom Bloomer ‘02, with sizable initial donations coming from Krishna Potarazu and David Koch.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, as the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation is registered as a 501(c)(3). When making a donation, Graduate Brothers need to choose “Foundation Donation (tax-deductible)” and write “Beta Mu Educational Endowment” in the comments. This will ensure the donation receives favorable tax treatment AND is allocated to Beta Mu only.

Will my donations go directly to Beta Mu?
Yes. The funds raised (and then distributed) are earmarked for rewarding the academic achievements of Beta Mu only. As long as there is FIJI at Hopkins, the funds will be directly to us only.

Why is the fund being run through the National Organization?
The fund is being administered by the National Organization for three reasons: tax deductibility, cost savings and to ensure proper fiscal management of the fund in perpetuity.

How are the endowment fund assets distributed?
While the fund is administered by the National Phi Gamma Delta Organization, disbursements from the fund are designated by the Graduate Board of Trustees and Current Chapter Leadership. In order to preserve the perpetuity of the fund, a maximum yearly disbursement percentage will be set.

What are other ways I can help?
Yes. The Oriole Fiji is always looking for Graduate Brothers to help fundraise, increase our reach for communication and help Current Brothers in their career endeavors. Please contact us here or send an email to [email protected] for opportunities to help.

Can I donate anonymously to the Fraternity?
Yes, please reach out to [email protected] with your request.

What is the health of the chapter?
Approximately 50 current brothers; with 12-18 pledges per year over the past 6 years. Our brothers represent members of varsity teams, student government, ROTC and dozens of other student organizations. Every year, we sponsor the PUSH event for the USO, where we've raised close to $20,000 for soldiers and their families over the past ten years.

If I donate directly to the chapter, what would my money go to?
We can direct your donation towards any area you would like to support. Please note our Fraternity is in excellent financial standing with all current Brothers up to date on dues and minimal outstanding debts existing amongst recent Graduate Brothers. This year, we have ramped up our Brotherhood events with weekly dinners and this is an area we can always use more financial support.

If you would rather send funds directly to the Chapter (for brotherhood dinners or social events etc), please do so via Venmo @Fiji-BetaMu or PayPal: [email protected]
